Get RSS Feeds
Getting RSS feeds is easy with Searchtempest! Simply click the link below to save a .opml file to your hard drive. Then open your favorite RSS Feed reader and import the file!
You can use the default feed titles chosen by Searchtempest, or modify them below.
Feed titles: in <City Name>, <State Name>
Get RSS Feeds! This will give you a separate feed for each craigslist city. (Don't worry - it will create them all for you at once, automatically. It's just better than putting everything in a single feed because it remains in the format intended by craigslist, and it gives you the flexibility to view all results together, or only results for a specific city.) I recommend putting them all into a new folder in your RSS reader. That way you can view the results as a single list if you like, while keeping your reader uncluttered. If you're not sure how to do that, I have detailed instructions for Google Reader below.

Here's exactly what you need to do, step by step, to get your feeds into Google Reader and start browsing. (If you prefer, you can use a different feed reader, but I can't tell you how to work all of them! ;) I chose Google Reader because it's easy to use and one of the most popular.
- Choose a title for your feeds and enter it above. It can be anything you want - just pick something short that reminds you what you were searching for. Or leave the default if you like.
- Click 'Get RSS Feeds!'. You'll be prompted to save an 'opml' file. This is a file that will tell your feed reader where to find the feeds for each craigslist city. Save the file somewhere you can find it later, like your desktop.
- Now, go to Google Reader. (Opens in a new window.) You may want to bookmark that page to go back to later.
- At the top-right, click Settings, then Reader Settings. Then click the Import/Export tab.
- Browse for the opml file you just saved, then click 'Upload'.
- The feeds are now all in google reader, but they aren't sorted. In case you decide to add feeds for a different search (or your favorite blog or whatever) later, you'll want to put these ones into their own folder. To do that, you need to be in the 'Subscriptions' tab. (Google should take you there automatically once you upload your file.)
- Beside your first feed, click the 'Add to a folder...' button, and choose 'New folder...'. Then pick a name for your folder; probably the same name you chose for your feeds in step 1.
- Now at the top-left, click 'Select: All X subscriptions' (where X is the number of cities you searched).
- If you have other feeds in Google Reader already, you'll first need to 'Filter' to show only the new ones. You can do that by typing the name you chose for your feeds in step 1. into the 'filter' box at the top-right. Then go ahead and click the select-all link as above.
- Now use the 'More actions..." dropdown at the top in the middle to add all the feeds you selected to the folder you just created.
- And that's it! Click 'Back to Google Reader' at the top to see your results. You can click on your folder on the left to see the results for every city, or click on the individual cities on the left to get just their results. The numbers beside the folder and each city are the numbers of new results found.
- If you click on the folder with your feeds in it, then click 'Mark all as read' at the top, next time you come back, only the new results will be highlighted.
Hope that helps! If you still have questions after going through these steps, please send me an email so I can help you out AND make these instructions better!
