Eek! Opera!

A quick fix is required before Searchtempest will work with Opera (your web browser). Read on for the technical details, or just scroll down to the solution..

Details

In a nutshell, the problem is that Craigslist.org automatically blocks any site that links to them 'too much'. Why they would want to prevent people from sending them traffic, I don't know, but that's what they do. To find out where people are coming from, they check a variable sent by your browser. Firefox and Internet Explorer can both be automatically configured not to send this variable, but other browsers (such as Opera) require a bit more work.

The Fix(s)

• Quick Fix

  You can tell Opera not to send this referrer information by unchecking the checkbox Tools/Quick Preferences/Send Referrer Information.

  A few rare sites require referrer info to work properly though, so if you have troubles with another site, try turning this option back on, or use the Advanced solution below.

• Firefox

  Opera's a great browser, but I do slightly prefer Firefox. As a bonus, it works with Searchtempest, without any tweaking.

• Advanced

  If you don't want to disable Referrers for all sites, you can use some more advanced settings to make it work.

  1. Right-click on this page, and choose "Edit Site Preferences..."
  2. Change the 'site' listed in the dialog box from "www.searchtempest.com" to "craigslist.org" (no quotes, no www).
  3. Click on the Network tab, then uncheck the box "Send referrer information"
  4. Click OK.
  5. Now just click here to let Searchtempest know you're done. You shouldn't see this message again. (If you want it back, it can be accessed through the 'Help' page.)

I apologize for the inconvenience. I have done everything I can to make Searchtempest as compatible as possible, but I am working under the restrictions imposed by our Craigian Overlords.. Anyway, once you've sorted things out, just head back to the Searchtempest home page. As long as you don't get redirected back here, you're good to go!
